Inspiring Employee Engagement For 15 Years

Christian Financial Credit Union (CFCU) is among the longest-standing OnSemble customers, beginning with ‘Nucleus’ – their first Employee Intranet in 2008. CFCU had grander ambitions, one that would take their whole team on a voyage toward a shining light at sea.

That journey began during a power-packed day at PowWOW, Passageways Annual Conference. During a peer to peer learning and best practices workshop, CFCU’s Director of IT Erlinda Seib was exposed to the full breadth of the OnSemble intranet platform: driving culture, engagement, and growth. Inspired and galvanized, Erlinda got to work.

We thought, why not make our intranet more efficient, make it so people don't have to search, let them go exactly to what it is that they need to get work done.

“We struggled with our intranet before. We knew that there was a potential for it but it was just dificult getting people on the same page.” Ms. Seib said. “After PowWOW, we thought why not make our intranet more efficient, make it so people don't have to search, let them go exactly to what it is that they need to get work done.”

The CFCU Team

When the CFCU team arrived home from PowWOW, they began to chart their course. They reached out to their Customer Success Manager and began a deep dive into their existing portal to identify and define the strategic importance of remodeling and rebranding their portal. They completed a Passageways Executive Business Review (EBR), a project that provides analytics and insights services to OnSemble Customers. Backed by data and driven by creativity, the implementation team had an immediate buy-in from the leadership and the following goals for their portal:

  • Increase productivity through easier navigation
  • Save employees time by having fewer clicks to access information
  • Reduce paperwork
  • Ensure consistency throughout and designed to be visually appealing

They dubbed their new portal the ‘Lighthouse’ and with all the drivers of success in place, the cross-functional implementation team that included members from every department, set out to develop their pages.

CFCU's New Portral

"One major goal of the new portal was to create department-specific internal pages, with links and tools specific to each person’s job function," Explained Ms. Monroe. "This is a huge help to existing and new employees alike, providing an easy resource to turn to during the day to perform essential job functions."

What makes this transformation striking is the CFCU team’s dedication to their new portal’s success. They didn’t stop with the remodel. As the team worked toward launch day, they ensured the unveiling of the new portal was met with enthusiasm and excitement throughout their credit union. In the weeks leading up to the launch of the ‘Lighthouse’, the team organized training sessions for employees, walking them through many new capabilities of their OnSemble portal.

With the launch imminent, the CFCU team procured Lighthouse shaped stress balls with the CFCU logo and a giveaway to drive enthusiasm for their new intranet. This was followed by a Scavenger Hunt on their portal to get employees engaged, excited for the possibilities of collaborating together. The team went one step further, developing in-house training videos to help employees gain expertise in using the new portal. All these initiatives were crucial in driving widespread adoption of the portal. Word quickly got to the top recalled Ms. Seib, “The buzz of the new portal reached the board members, who have requested a special session to walk them through the portal.”

Getting Ready for Launch Day: CFCU Giveaways

After the launch, we are exhilarated to have exceeded our expectations with the portal.

That’s true engagement, across all levels of an organization – from board and leadership to frontline. The best measure of the success of the OnSemble ‘Lighthouse’ portal is the employee’s appreciation and applause, which echoed across all branches during the unveiling.

“After the launch, we are exhilarated to have exceeded our expectations with the portal.” Ms. Seib recalled. “We have incorporated all that we need and have received an overwhelming response from our employees.” Writing to CFCU staff, CEO Patty Cambell expressed hope and aspiration about the bright possibilities ahead: with the Lighthouse guiding their ship for years to come.
